When was the last time you had your car serviced - is your service overdue? You might feel as though you’re saving yourself money by putting off your service because of the cost but in the long run, this can cause expensive damage to your vehicle.
If you really want to save money, make sure you get your car serviced regularly! It's also common sense to detect items that are wearing so they can be replaced before they fail which may cause inconvenience & expense.
Make sure you service your car before a holiday
The last thing you need is the stress of your vehicle breaking down while you’re on holiday. If you are heading off on a road trip, make sure you service your vehicle before you go so it drives at its optimum performance – not just for the health of the vehicle but also for your family’s safety.
Services help to maintain your tyres
One of the biggest safety issues is often the state of your tyres. If they are worn and need replacing, your mechanic will let you know during a service, so you are driving a vehicle that has adequate tread on the tyres.
If your tyres are out of alignment this causes a vibration risk and tyre wear. There are also further dangers of the car pulling or drifting out of the lane when the tyres aren't properly aligned.
Checking your oil
If you don’t change your oil regularly, this can damage your car’s engine and lead to long-term damage. Old oil becomes sludgy and prevents the normal flow of oil throughout the engine.
Cabin and engine air filters
When was the last time you checked the air filters in your vehicle? You have 2 main ones.
Over their lifetime, cabin air filters become dirty and clogged which can affect air circulation cause bad odours. It's designed to block dust, pollen, smog, mould spores and other pollutants. The second filter is in the engine's air intake and if clogged can accelerate engine wear, cause poor performance and increase fuel consumption by up to 10%.
How often should I service my vehicle?
Most new cars these days have a set price service interval plan, check with Northpoint if your car is still covered by this. However, if your vehicle has reached the end of its warranty or the service plan it's up to you now to decide on how regularly it is serviced. We also offer our Set Price Service.
The service interval best suited to your car will depend on a range of factors such as the make, vehicle type, its age and the conditions under which it is driven. Generally, we recommend an interval of 5,000-10,000 km or 6 months but some models do not require this as in the newer Toyota models with 12-month/15,000 km intervals. A check of your car owner's manual will generally verify this.
The evidence is clear - if you delay servicing your vehicle for too long you are driving at a risk and prematurely wearing your engine and probably burning more fuel. Preventing this is easy if you get your car serviced regularly to avoid costly repairs or potential safety issues. A reputable dealer like Northpoint will ensure you are reminded when a service is due to take the worry out of remembering. Northpoint Toyota can service any brand new or old and be surprisingly competitive in matching independent service & repair companies pricing.
